| Basic Training of the Young Horse |
by Reiner Klimke, Jane Kidd (Editor), Paul Stecken While Klimke lays the basic foundation of dressage training, he speaks from a perspective that is far removed from most American dressage lovers. Most don't have full time grooms and the ability to turn their horses out to pasture in the summer. Reviewer: A reader from Canada Klimke clearly and logically lays out the foundations of basic training. The information is easy to read, concise and shows a deep understanding and respect of the horse. There is much more packed between the covers than I expected. An excellent, excellent read for anyone who works with horses. |

| Lyons on Horses: John Lyons' Proven Conditioned-Response Tra |
Lyons on Horses: John Lyons' Proven Conditioned-Response Training Program This book is the end all say all of horse training. Not onlydoes John Lyons take you step by step through the creation of anobedient and willing partner, but he does it with out ever hurting or threatening to hurt the horse. By using John Lyons methods your horse becomes willing and eager to do what you ask of him, not bullied into listening through fear of punishment. I would heartily recomend this book to any horse owner who wants thier horse to be a life partner, and not just a beast of burden bullied into cooperating. Lyon's practical, everyday approach to horses & life in general takes the mystery out of dealing with horses. In addition his emphasis is on *enjoying* your horse and developing the relationship between the two of you. He's a breath of fresh air in a world full of horse trainers & competition-hunger specialists. In addition, he has a monthly newsletter where he covers immediate issues and reader questions. The book covers a lot of information and I intentionally read it slowly so that I could take time to absorb & put to use the lessons there. It is well organized for easy access & referral when trying to resolve a specific problem. His position attitude makes the book very inspiring. His motto sums it up nicely, "The perfect horse is the horse in your back yard!" |
