Health care Cost hits 17.3 Percent of GDP. The President and members of Congress who are trying to destroy the Health Care Sector paint one of the few American Growth Sectors of the economy as a bad thing.
Chris Dodd made the statement that the greatest percent of GDP spent on health care of any of our trading partners is only 10% and that puts us at a disadvantage with our
trading partners.
Now imagine that the American people spend 3% of GDP (made up number) on
American made underwear. Now consider if Chris Dodd made the statement that
the greatest percent of GDP of any of our trading partners spent on underwear
is 1%. Consider if Chris Dodd declares that for us to be more competitive we need to nationalize the underwear business and reduce the percent of underwear GDP to 1% even if that means 75% of Americans will no longer be able to buy American made underwear regardless of how affordable Chris Dodd might wish to make underwear.
It doesn't matter what percent of GDP Americans spend on healthcare. It is
a real number created by the American marketplace. It neither makes us more
competitive or less competitive. It is what it is.
Does Chris Dodd want all American workers to make as little as the Chinese Worker so we can “compete” with China. Is that the agenda of Dodd and Obama? To turn us into China.
There is an artificial, government created, number that is within the domain of the President and Congress. At the end of 2007 General Government Debt stood at 25% of GDP. Historically, it is around 40%. At the end of 2008 it was around 45%. It is expected by the end of 2010 that General Government Debt will be around 67.9%. When the percent of Government Debt grows too little or too much, the result is economic instability.
To further put the context of Chris Dodd's statement into the realm of foolishness consider that in 2008 the trade deficit was around $677 billion. That is 4.7% of GDP. The deficit on petroleum products was $386.3 billion, up from $293.2 billion in 2007. Realize that the trade deficit, unlike
Healthcare, actually is a drain on the American economy. Wealth created in
Healthcare has a multiplier of around 4, the velocity of money, and that projects the wealth
created through the economy from Healthcare. Money that flows out of the country in deficit also has a multiplier of 4 and that projects the wealth being taken out of the country.
When Chris Dodd and Obama say they want to reduce Healthcare spending from 17% of GDP to 10% of GDP what they are saying is that in this economic recession, they want to replace good paying Healthcare Jobs with shovel ready minimum wage jobs. This is not a President or a Congress who cares about America's Middle Class or Poor.
Congress should not pretend to be dealing with our trade deficit by doing to Healthcare what Congress did to housing by mandating predatory lending. Congress should reduce restrictions on American energy production so we will become less dependent on foreign oil sources as the loss of affordable domestic energy is a large part what is throwing all sectors of the economy out of whack.

The really big news about the Gulf Oil Disaster is how much oil is there. Notice how the media isn't talking about how the USA could become an oil exporter again if we weren't run by retarded people.
